Appliance Rebates for Algoma Utilities' Customers

Customers served by Algoma Utilities are eligible for energy efficient appliance rebates which are available through the Wisconsin State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program (SEEARP). The plan for the rebate program was approved on September 29, 2009 by the Wisconsin Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee and was submitted to the U.S. Department of Energy. The U.S. Department of Energy has recently given final approval and allocated funding available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The state-run rebate program covers consumer purchases of new ENERGY STAR® qualified home appliances which replace existing appliances. The allocation for the State of Wisconsin is $5.4 million of the nearly $300 million in federal economic stimulus funding available nationwide. The rebate program will give cash back to customers in Wisconsin for the purchase of qualified energy efficient appliances.

The prospect of additional funding to help customers save energy is good news for Algoma Utilities and its customers. Saving energy is the best way to help customers keep their electric bills down, protect the environment, and help defer the need for expensive new power plants.

Focus on Energy will administer the program. Since Algoma Utilities is a Focus on Energy participant, customers served by Algoma’s municipally owned electric utility are already eligible for existing Focus on Energy Cash-Back Rewards. The program rewards customers with cash back for purchasing certain energy efficient water heaters and furnaces, as well as other ENERGY STAR® qualified home appliances. Rebates range from $25.00 for qualified dishwashers to $100.00 for qualified cloths washers. The program is available to residential customers for replacement of existing appliances only. Other restrictions may also apply depending on the item purchased.

Customers of Algoma’s community-owned utility are eligible for and encouraged to take advantage of both the existing program and the new appliance rebate available through Focus on Energy.

The Focus on Energy appliance Cash-Back Rewards program is funded by and available to customers of participating utilities in Wisconsin, including Algoma Utilities. The new, stimulus-funded appliance rebates are available to anyone in Wisconsin.
